‘SUNLIGHT: Roger Ackling’ is the most expansive exhibition of the late twentieth century artist Roger Ackling (1947-2014). Known for burning patterns on wood with sunlight, Ackling used driftwood and found materials in his minimalist approach. The exhibition includes his well-known driftwood pieces, lesser-known sculptures and his personal archive.
The exhibition SUNLIGHT: Roger Ackling traces the life and work of the British artist who used only sunlight and a magnifying glass to burn lines into found wood — a quiet, focused practice through which he captured moments in time. In this film, curator Amanda Geitner and archivist Errin Hussey explore Ackling’s ways of making and his legacy as both artist and teacher.
